Best Sliding Miter Saw Reviews:
DEWALT Sliding Compound Miter Saw Review
When reviewing any type of power tool, it is always a very safe bet to assume that DEWALT is going to appear at least once, if not multiple times. Individual experiences may vary, but it is rare to find someone who has had a bad experience with DEWALT power tools.
They may not be the greatest brand ever, but their tools are reliable and offer reasonably good performance for a pretty good price (especially when compared to some of the other high-end brands out there like Makita).
So, for the first review on this miter saw list, we are going to be taking a look at the DEWALT Sliding Compound Miter Saw. This is a classic DEWALT tool that has all the great features that you associate with the brand.
So, what is so good about this DEWALT Sliding Compound Miter Saw that it deserves to be reviewed on a list looking for the product?
First off, it is fairly powerful. As we will explain later on in our buying guide, power isn’t as important when looking at miter saws as when looking at regular table saws, but it is still important.
The power level of this miter saw is fairly impressive and pretty notable overall. The motor on the DEWALT is a respectable 15 amps and it delivers a hair under 4,000 RPM. In terms of total power, this may not be the most powerful miter saw out there, but we imagine that for most miter saw applications, it will more than meet your needs.
In addition to its power, it also has a great ability to cut very thick pieces of wood. It boasts an ability to cut wood up to around 7 inches in thickness.
It is also a very accurate saw, which is an important quality for any miter saw. The DEWALT has an adjustable back fence (they claim that it is a unique design, but this is hard to verify) that makes cutting at 45 or 90 degree angles very easy. Just in general, the DEWALT Sliding Compound Miter Saw is a great option for those wanting to make accurate woodworking cuts.
One particularly helpful feature is the dust collection system. A problem that has plagued woodworkers since the dawn of the hobby is the issue of dust. Cutting wood, especially fresh wood, has a tendency to produce a ton of sawdust. Could this be the best compound miter saw
The dust can cause numerous issues ranging from minor, annoying problems like coughing, to more major issues like tool failure or accidents. So, the fact that the DEWALT comes equipped with a dust collection system built-in to the tool that manages to remove around 3 quarters of the dust, which is really helpful in any scenario.
- Not that pricey given how well-made it is.
- Great dust collection system.
- Delivers accurate, powerful cuts.
- Fairly powerful motor.
- Backed up by 3 year warranty and DEWALT brand.
- Lacks some of the bells and whistles on other, higher-end miter saws (laser guiding for example).
Hitachi C10FCG 15-Amp 10″ Single Bevel Compound Miter Saw
Next up on our review list, we are looking at another miter saw from a brand that is almost as well-known and respected as DEWALT. Hitachi makes some pretty good power tools and the Hitachi C10FCG 15-Amp 10″ Single Bevel Compound Miter Saw is a great example of this. It is a very useful miter saw that is certainly a contender for the title of best product.
First off, in terms of power, the Hitachi is about on par with some of the other miter saws that we reviewed such as the DEWALT. Much like the last miter saw that we took a look at, the Hitachi C10FCG 15-Amp 10″ Single Bevel Compound Miter Saw has a 15 amp motor and it also has an RPM output of around 5000 as well.
On its own, the power output is good, but what makes it even more impressive is the fact that the Hitachi is very reasonably priced. In fact, it is among the most reasonably priced miter saws on our best product list. If you are on a budget but you also want a fairly good miter saw, this is an option for you.
Despite being reasonably priced, the Hitachi doesn’t compromise on quality. For example, it still makes very accurate cuts and it is highly adjustable. It can do both miter and bevel cuts with extreme accuracy. While the laser isn’t perfect (we will cover why that is shortly), it still manages to help somewhat with accuracy as well.
Finally, it’s also very light, which can help to make it a lot easier to use. You can easily get it into your preferred position and it is very easy to move if you ever need to do that for some reason.
It isn’t a perfect saw of course. It has two flaws that hold it back somewhat. First off, the laser attachment is extremely dim which isn’t a major issue, but it is annoying. Secondly, the saw’s dust collection system isn’t great, and it can be fairly annoying having to clean up all the excess dust.
The Hitachi C10FCG Single Bevel Compound Miter Saw is one of the best miter saw on the market today that can make professional cuts. It features an aluminum construction, which makes it very light to carry around. It has a high compression single blade that cuts through even the toughest wood. The blade is designed to be precise and accurate for both cutting edge and length.
The 15 amp motor produces a peak no-load rate of up to 10,000 rpm for creating straight miter cuts and crosscut cuts with much ease. The variable-speed motor allows you to adjust the speed of the blade for getting a precise cut every time.
The 0-52-degree Miter angle gives you maximum control over the cut for getting the most precise results every time. Miter ranges – right and left 52mm, both of which are easily adjustable depending upon your needs.
The Hitachi C10fCG single bevel compactor is a very versatile saw and is capable of cutting through just about any type of wood. You can use it to cut hard woods, soft woods, laminate, and veneer, as well as many other different types of wood. You will find this saw at most home improvement stores or hardware stores.
Although the price is a little on the higher end, the value you receive from this saw cannot be beaten. There are many good brands of compactor saws available on the market today, so before you buy one, make sure to read customer reviews to see what other people have said about the saw.
- Very light.
- Fairly accurate.
- Decent power output.
- Laser is very dim.
- Dust collection system could be better.
TACKLIFE Sliding Compound Miter Saw
For this next review, we are going to be taking a look at the TACKLIFE Sliding Compound Miter Saw. This is another very good miter saw that fits in well with any tool shed and that handymen will be sure to love.
As with all the other reviews on this list, let’s start by looking at the power level of this miter saw. In terms of power, the TACKLIFE Sliding Compound Miter Saw isn’t anything special, but it also is perfectly adequate as well. It has a 15 amp motor and it has an RPM output of close to 4000.
So, in other words, it is about on par with other miter saws on this list (although the RPM is slightly lower). The power output may not be the highest around, but it is more than enough for the vast majority of jobs that you are going to be tackling with the saw.
One area where the TACKLIFE Sliding Compound Miter Saw really shines is when it comes to making accurate cuts. It has features that make it significantly easier for you to make double bevel cuts and miter cuts with precise accuracy. It also has a really good laser attachment that makes guiding your cuts a lot simpler as well.
Another really useful feature is the sliding fence. This is good for those of you who often find yourself cutting very large pieces of wood that don’t fit on regular miter saw cutting surfaces. It helps to give you a lot more versatility when it comes to the sorts of woodworking projects that you can tackle.
One issue with this miter saw is the fact that certain parts of the saw seem a bit too fragile. The actual core parts of the saw, like the blade and motor, are fine. However, things like the handle are a bit too fragile for our liking. You should make sure that you are very careful when transporting this saw or using it, as you don’t want to accidentally snap off a handle or anything like that.
- Great laser attachment.
- Sliding design makes it easier to cut longer pieces of wood.
- Decent power output.
- Good at making very accurate cuts.
- Certain components like handles break very easily.
Bosch Power Tools GCM12SD – 15 Amp 12 in. Corded Dual-Bevel Sliding Glide Miter Saw
The Bosch GCM12SD saw is an excellent choice for cutting any size material in a short time. If you haven’t used a saw like this before then it’s highly recommended to check out this review.
This saw is made by Bosch, which is a very reputable company that makes quality products to help keep your work going. The saw is ideal for cutting wood, metal, and plastic. In this review I’ll be covering the pros/cons of the saw.
The first benefit of this saw is the fact that you can use it for different types of jobs. Because of the nature of the saw it is able to cut through a number of materials without ripping or damaging them.
Because of this it is perfect for cutting plastic, carpet, and wire. It also has a very powerful motor so you can cut through just about anything.
The second benefit of the Bosch GCM12SD is that is extremely compact. It only weighs in at 393g which is quite small and makes it perfect for when you’re working in tight spaces.
It also comes with a cord that is extremely long so you don’t need to worry about running over one with the saw. The pros almost cover it all so in my opinion, the pros far outweigh the cons when it comes to this saw.
As anyone who is familiar with power tools can tell you, Bosch is always very reliable and produces some great power tools. So, including the Bosch Power Tools GCM12SD – 15 Amp 12 in. Corded Dual-Bevel Sliding Glide Miter Saw on this list is an easy decision.
On the power side of the spectrum, we don’t have any complaints about the Bosch. It is roughly on par with all of the other high-end miter saws that we have reviewed so far in our search for the best compound miter saw. It outputs around 4000 RPM (give or take) and it has the standard 15 amp motor that you have seen in other miter saws.
One feature of this miter saw that does definitely need to be noted is unique Axial-Glide system. This is a unique system that is found only on Bosch miter saws. Basically, what it does is make it a lot easier for you to control the saw blade. This, in turn, makes it a lot easier to make extremely precise cuts, which is the purpose of the miter saw.
The fence on the Bosch is exceptionally well-made. It can be locked or unlocked with just the press of a button. It also doesn’t really require any adjustments out of the box, so you can get straight down to business the moment that you get the saw. The settings related to the actual cutting are also very easy to use.
For example, with a lot of miter saws, the bevel settings are often located way at the back of the saw. This makes it very inconvenient for you to change the settings since you have to stop working, move around to the back, and them come back around. On this saw, the settings are helpfully located right at the front.
- Extremely accurate.
- Very easy and convenient to use.
- Highly adjustable fence.
- Unique Axial-Glide system for more control.
- One of the more expensive options on this list.
Makita LS1219L 12″ Dual-Bevel Sliding Compound Miter Saw with Laser
In my Makita review I will go over some of the pros and cons associated with the Makita LS1219L. Firstly, as this is a Makita item, you can trust that it will stay this way for years to come.
The saw is made of high quality steel that has been shielded by high-tech powder coatings. It also features the ability to rival any of today’s top 12 sliding compound miter saws out there.
When it comes to power, this saw can cut well into wood up to 1″ thick. Because of this feature it is ideal for cabinet work and detailed work where you need to cut precise angles and slices.
High Quality Miter Saw
When it comes to ease of use, this saw comes with just about everything that anyone could ask for right out of the box.
It comes complete with a precision air cutting blade, an accurate dual bevel blade for precise and clean cuts, a durable and rubberized blade guard, high-quality cutting mat, and a high-quality cutting blade.
Another pro that comes with this saw is the fact that it comes with a 15-amp motor. This is the best power capacity that a Makita cutter has to offer and is perfect for anybody who is trying to get the most out of their saw.
On the downside, this Makita saw does have some negative reviews out there. One problem is that the motor does have a tendency to kickback during operation. If you kickback too much during operation, the blade could make a hole in your clothes.
Another problem that is common is that the saw can get clogged up with dust and dirt during operation. This can also cause the blade to stop cutting altogether. However, these are both minor issues and easily fixed.
This is an extremely high-quality miter saw that also happens to carry an extremely hefty price tag. However, if you are in the market for a really high-end miter saw, you certainly won’t be regretting your purchase if you go with this saw for quite a few reasons.
By far the biggest draws of the Makita are its accuracy and how easy it is to use. Starting with accuracy, the Makita makes it very simple for you to make any kind of cut with pinpoint accuracy. Not only does it have a great grip, but the laser attachment also works very well.
In terms of ease of use, the Makita boasts quite a few different attachments that make the miter saw a whole lot simpler to use. For example, it is very light, which makes moving it around easy. Also, it has a really good dust collection system, which again just makes cleaning up a lot simpler.
As we mentioned before, it isn’t a perfect by any means. It comes with a hefty price tag, which is due both to the actual quality of the tool and its brand name. Likewise, it also has a slightly lower RPM than most of the other tools on this list (3000 RPM vs around 4000 RPM), which is pretty disappointing.
- Great laser attachment for improved accuracy.
- Very good dust collection attachment.
- Extremely lightweight.
- Very durable; will last for a long time.
- One of the pricier miter saws on the market.
- Slightly lower RPM than other miter saws on this list.
Best Compound Miter Saw + Buying Guide
Above you saw our best compound miter saw, five reviews that make up our search for the best miter saws. However, that isn’t going to be the end of this article. As an additional bonus, we wanted to look at how one should actually go about buying a miter saw on their own.
It is important for any self-respecting handyman to know what to look for in a power tool;
You can’t just rely on others telling you which tools to get and which to avoid (although expert recommendations shouldn’t be discounted either). So, in this second part, we are going to explain some of the important factors that need to be considered when searching for a miter saw.
Power – Look For High RPM
The thing to keep in mind when searching for a miter saw is that it isn’t meant to be a powerhouse tool. If you want a saw with a lot of power to cut through large amounts of wood at once, then you should be going for a circular saw or a table saw.
However, just because miter saws are meant for more precise cuts doesn’t mean that power is useless. As you saw from our list, you still want to make sure that the miter saw that you buy has a decent power output. Personally, we would recommend something in the 15 amp range and that has a decently high RPM output (3000+).
Accuracy – Its Important When Making The Cuts
Finding an accurate miter saw can be difficult because you don’t know how to test the accuracy of the tool until you have actually used it, which is obviously not very helpful. Because of this issue, we recommend keeping an eye out for certain features that help to make accurate cutting easier.
For starters, make sure that any miter saw that you buy has a good laser attachment. Lasers on miter saws really help to boost the accuracy levels and you will notice that your cuts are a lot more precise. Another thing to keep an eye out for is an adjustable fence. Being able to adjust the fence on the fly can lead to more accurate cuts.
Dust Collection – Makes Life Easier
It may seem minor at first but having a good dust collection system on your miter saw can really make your life a whole lot easier later on.
We mentioned this a few times while doing the reviews for our best miter saws list, but we want to mention it again because it is worth repeating. Nothing is worse than having to clean up loads of sawdust after a routine job. Being able to have the dust go directly into a bag is a feature that is worth looking for.
What is a Compound Miter Saw?
A compound miter Saw is a saw that has a beveled blade that locks into place when it is in use. A beveled blade allows you to cut multiple pieces of stock in very thin slices. The sloping surface of the blade also allows you to cut material that is of very thick size.
A beveled blade is a common feature on many saws. A bevel means the blade actually cuts off an edge and leaves a smooth flat surface. Dual and single bevel are the most common types of beveled blades. Both types of bevel allow you to create bevel cuts, which in essence is the opposite of cross-cut cuts.
One of the biggest selling features of the standard miter Saw is the ability to make angled cuts. An angle can be made by using two saws at the same time. With these types of saws, you simply move one in a side direction while switching the other out in the opposite direction. The result is that the blade will now cut in a new location. These are popular saws most commonly used by carpenters.
A compound carbide miter Saw is another popular saw for making precise cuts. This type of saw consists of two vertical planes that spin. Each plane has a different center line, which allows it to make bevel cuts in any direction. Because each plane is on a different plane, they can be used simultaneously and will produce a similar result.
While compound saws are very versatile, they are also the most expensive of the various saws available today. Some saws can be as much as double the price of a regular saw, which makes them more expensive. However, when used correctly and when used frequently, compound saws can be very accurate and can be very useful for a wide variety of projects. They are ideal for building large boards, chopping small boards into smaller pieces, and for cutting large boards into smaller panels.
Another type of saw with a beveled face is the miter. Miters are used for detailed woodworking. They have a bevel at the middle of their blade, so that when a material is cut, the outside edge of the blade remains smooth and is not sharp. They also come in a wide variety of sizes, making them ideal for cutting small to medium-sized materials.
Another option available is the power miter saw.
This type of bevel is located on the cutting teeth of the saw and is responsible for much of the work done with the saw. Power miter saws usually come in a few different options. They can be manual or powered by an electric motor. Manual models generally require a person to stand next to the machine while it is running, and some even require a cord accessory be attached to a power source.
A single compound miter saw also has a bevel, but it is on the other side of the blade. Instead of needing to stand beside the saw, there is only one arm that swings out. One of the advantages of this type of saw is that it usually does not need a cord or any other additional attachments. However, the advantage of this design is that the angle of the blade can be changed from right to left.
It can also be done in one direction only, but not both directions. The disadvantage of this design is that it cannot be used accurately on cut lengths less than forty-eight inches.
Which Is Better – Compound Miter Saw or Sliding Miter Saw?
If you are planning to purchase a new miter or compound saw then you should know which is better. The question is not just, which is better, but which is best for what you are doing with your saw. There are many reasons to use either a compound or a miter Saw for different types of cutting.
Compound or sliding miter blades tend to do a better job for people who cut small amounts of material and those who need a finer cutting edge.
If you are planning on doing a lot of straight cut woodworking with your saw then you should choose a compound or sliding miter. A sliding miter will enable you to create accurate angled cuts just by using a slight sliding movement to push the saw blade across the piece of wood.
Like the other two saws mentioned above, it’s set up much like a regular miter saw except that it has some additional adjustments in it for your particular woodworking project. To compare the two, I suggest you first determine how much material you plan to cut with your saw.
Which one is better at cutting materials over a long distance? This is another good question to ask yourself before you decide which is better compound miter saws or sliding miter saws. One option to consider is the distance from the blade to the actual cutting surface.
Some compound miter saws can reach up to 90 degrees from the surface which is far more than the sliding or non sliding counterparts can achieve. Also consider if you need the ability to change the depth of cut. A sliding miter has the ability to vary the depth of the cut in order to achieve the best cut for whatever particular project.
Which is better at cutting through difficult materials such as particle board? While both saws can perform the same cuts, their approach to cutting different materials is very different. Compound saws are designed to cut materials on a flat surface and provide very accurate angles and beveled cuts.
Sliding miter versions are designed for use with materials on an inclined plane. Because these saws are primarily performed on a flat surface, they are usually referred to as “flat-top” versions.
Which is better at cutting wider materials like pine?
This is often a difficult question to answer since all Miter Saw types can cut wide materials. The main thing to consider is the speed and capability of the saw. Sliding miter cuts slower than a miter saw, which makes them ideal for cutting materials such as plywood.
If speed is a necessity than a miter saw would be your best choice.
Which is better at cutting wood quickly? This again is a difficult question to answer because all compound miter saws are capable of quick cutting and provide excellent angles. The most common saw used for rapid cutting is the diamond compound miter box saw. However, you can also purchase sliding miter saws that are designed to cut faster and provide similar angles.
Which is better at cutting material accurately and quickly?
These are tough questions to answer as all compound miter saws are capable of providing accurate cut angles and cuts.
The most common saw used for accuracy is the diamond bevel saw which is the fastest and most accurate saw on the market. It is also the most expensive.
Both saws can be purchased at your local lumber store or online. The decision, which is better at cutting material quickly and accurately will ultimately depend on what you plan on using the saw for. If you need to cut materials very quickly then a standard miter saw would be your best bet.
If you need a saw that can cut fairly accurate cuts but is a little more expensive then a sliding miter saw may be a good choice. It just depends on what you need the saw for.
What Is The Best Miter Saw For The Money?
The Makita and DeWalt are two very popular saws that everyone uses when cutting wood. However, they have some differences that make them different when it comes to what is the best miter saw for the money. In order to compare these two power tools, you first need to understand what each one has to offer.
Both have the ability to cut through wood in a multitude of different styles, but there are some differences that make each tool unique. This article will compare these two powerful tools and help you decide which one is right for you.
The Makita saw is one of the best around.
It is a well-built all-metal saw that is very durable and will last for many years. While it does not have as much power as the DeWalt, it can still cut through most wood without a problem. This saw has a lot of settings that allow you to customize how much pressure you apply to the blade.
You can start off on a low setting and slowly increase the pressure as you get better at cutting.
Makita Has More Customization Than Dewalt
If you compare what is the best miter saw for the money with the Makita you might think that the DeWalt is the better tool. The saw is the same basic saw but it does not have the customization that the Makita does. The Makita also does not have a blade guard and comes with only a simple blade.
The blade is made out of carbon steel, which is not as durable as the blades made out of stainless steel or aluminum. While the blade is not as useful as some of the other options, it is still good for some projects.
When trying to decide which is the best miter saw for the money, there are several other things to consider. The saws make different noise levels and it is important to know if you want a quiet or noisy saw. Some saws will make a lot of noise while other will be quiet.
Another thing to consider is what kind of saw it is made out of.
The cheapest models are made out of cheaper metals, such as aluminum or stainless steel. While they are not the best quality, they are still acceptable in most cases. The more expensive saws are made out of harder metals, which will give you better results and will be better for a longer period of time.
The best miter saw for the money should also be easy to assemble and use. The saws that are easy to put together and use are also usually the best in the long run. They are also the easiest to find on the market.
Price – Get Value For Money
The cheapest models can sometimes be difficult to find and are not always the easiest to use, but you should still try to find them since they are usually cheaper than more expensive saws.
The size of the miter saw is also important when determining what is the best miter saw for the money. If you need to cut very small materials then a small miter saw is probably all you will need. However, if you have a large project ahead of you then you may want to consider purchasing a larger saw that will allow you to cut more material with each cut.
If you decide to purchase a larger saw make sure you get one that will accommodate all of the wood you plan on cutting.
Finding what is the best miter saw for the money you have available should not be too difficult. When choosing a saw, you should look at the overall quality of the saw as well as how much money you are willing to spend on it.
Additionally, you will want to look at reviews from people who have purchased the saw as well as how long the saw lasted. If you take these aspects into consideration, you should be able to choose the law that will best suit your needs.
